Abstract

With the advances in mechanical properties of zirconia, many laboratories have come with CAD/CAM-milled solid zirconia restorations with no veneering porcelain. They are constructed of solid monolithic zirconia. Various terms are used for such restorations like full-contour zirconia, allzirconia and monolithic zirconia. Many brands of monolithic zirconia are now available in the market. However, the mechanical properties of monolithic zirconia systems have not been widely studied. These monolithic zirconia ceramics are fabricated from monoblock of pure zirconia. These systems are thought more stable in comparison to conventional zirconia ceramics. Fabricating monoblock restorations from pure zirconia could increase the mechanical stability and expand the range of indications. However, zirconia is known as a whitish, opaque core material and its properties for monolithic restoration have not been understood completely. The occluding surfaces were made of monolithic zirconia, to decrease the risk of chipping or fracture. The prostheses were esthetically pleasing, and no clinical complications have been reported after 2-3 years.
